Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Springbok Men’s Sevens team sealed a stellar victory against Fiji over the weekend to claim their first SVNS title in Perth.

The team was five points behind with four minutes to play, yet sealed a 21-19 victory.

It was a proud moment of perseverance and teamwork, said head coach Philip Snyman.

He added that it was extra special to win on Australian soil, their first win down under since 2017 in Sydney.

“I told the assistant coach (Renfred Dazel) that I don’t know how we are going to do it, but I know that we are going to win this tournament the morning before we started that semi-final [against Australia]. And just like that, that is exactly how it happened.

“It was magical throughout the weekend.

I think everyone made a massive step up in effort and attitude. I am really proud of the guys.”

Snyman said that the focus now shifts to rebuilding the Springbok identity, noting that while they have made progress, there is still much work to be done.

“We want to instil fear in the Springboks Sevens jersey again.”
