Africa-Press – South-Africa. JOHANNESBURG – The Border Management Authority (BMA) has urged South Africans with plans to travel to Mozambique to delay their trips until it’s safe to do so.
This comes as the Lebombo border post remains closed due to a rise in tensions on the side of Mozambique.
The authority is engaging with officials in Mozambique on a way forward.
Disgruntled Mozambicans embarked on demonstrations, protesting against the recent election results.
BMA Commissioner Micheal Masiapato said that he was hopeful that Friday’s meeting with Mozambican officials would be fruitful.
“If Mozambique tells us they are ready to process their people, we have no reason not to process them from our side, that is the fundamental issue, that is why the officials that are here saying we cannot make that determination because the situation is too complicated, we would want our leaders to come here and be able to give that decision.”
