Africa-Press – South-Africa. The first troupe of the Cape Town Tweede Nuwe Jaar festival on Monday made its way down Somerset Road in Green Point, where thousands of people gathered to partake in the spectacle.

The event, which was organised by the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association, saw about 20,000 performers march from Chiappini Street in District Six and down into Somerset Road as they made their way to the DHL Stadium.

Somerset Road was lined with excited spectators who came to watch the minstrels strut their stuff.

The first of 16 troupes was seen making its way down Somerset Road, where onlookers celebrated while the performers danced to the Klopse beat.

The troupes eventually ended up at the DHL Stadium for a competition later in the day, with the last troupe expected to start the parade at 5pm.

Tickets for the stadium were R80 for adults and R50 for children and were only available at Computicket.
