Three Gauteng Officials Reinstated After 60-Day Deadline

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The Gauteng government has confirmed that three suspended senior officials returned to work.

This includes the head of the Department of Health, Lesiba Malotana, who was suspended after failing a lifestyle audit.

He will now be deployed as a senior manager in the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Provincial spokesperson Elijah Mhlangu said the reinstatement of the suspended officials was part of established labour and public service guidelines.

He said one of those guidelines was that employees placed on precautionary suspension must be allowed to return to work after 60 days if disciplinary action had not been taken against them.

“It is important to note that precautionary suspension is an administrative measure, not a punishment. Transferring officials to different roles minimises the risk of interference with ongoing investigations while their disciplinary processes continue independently”.
