Africa-Press – South-Africa. Police have arrested three people in connection with the murder of Collins Chabane Municipality Mayor Moses Maluleke and the attempted murder of his son.
Maluleke was shot dead on 21 July at his home in Shikundu village, Limpopo.
Collins Chabane mayor shot dead at home during robbery, manhunt for gunmen under way
News24 previously reported that three gunmen entered 56-year-old Maluleke’s home at around 19:00 that evening and demanded money from him and his 18-year-old son. When they didn’t comply, the gunmen opened fire.
The mayor died at the scene. His wounded son was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police offered a R250 000 reward for information on the attackers.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said:
“Soon after the shootings…the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, visited the scene and immediately assembled a team of investigators, led by a senior officer, to probe the incident. The team succeeded in apprehending the suspects within a week.”
