Africa-Press – South-Africa. Three people have been arrested after they were found in alleged possession of boxes of antiretroviral medication in at a Bloemfontein shopping centre.
It appeared that the medication had been stolen during a break-in at a Free State clinic.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane said the men were arrested on Wednesday when officers received a tip-off about men who had boxes of medication at a shopping mall in Kenneth Kaunda Road in Helicon Heights.
“[Members of the Mangaung Metro Tactical Response Team] pounced on the suspects at about 09:15. A silver bakkie with three men was searched in the mall parking area, and boxes full of antiretroviral medications were found,” Covane said.
He added that officers found different types of antiretrovirals in the boxes, valued at around R85 000.
“A preliminary investigation was conducted, and it appears that the medicines were stolen during a break-in at a clinic in Boshof,” Covane added.
The three people, aged 28, 43 and 52, were arrested.
They are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
