Africa-Press – South-Africa. Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya said the city is engaging the national government on how to mitigate the reported fuel outage affecting municipal buses.
The Tshwane Bus Service has been significantly affected by the fuel crisis, with all three of its depots running extremely low.
While only a few of its buses are running, the city anticipates that all municipal buses will soon be forced to stop operating.
The Tshwane Bus Service is one of the most affordable and accessible modes of transport for thousands of workers, students and daily commuters.
It normally runs about 155 shifts per day and covers about 3,500 bus stops across the capital city.
Moya said an urgent solution is needed.
“We are going to rely on the president and the ministers to guide us on terms of how to work together. In the city, we have just a short-term plan on how to work with the small supply that we have.”
She said all hands must be on deck.
“At least this is happening when the kids are at home. It’s not going to end next week, so there’s a lot of work we are doing also with the Ministry of Transport.”
Although the new petrol prices took effect on Wednesday, many motorists have reported fuel shortages at several petrol stations.
