Africa-Press – South-Africa. What started as a hostage drama turned into a drug arrest after tik, mandrax and a date rape drug were found at a Cape Town hotel.
Police arrested two suspects – a man, 39, and a 40-year-old woman – on Thursday after following up on a tip that a woman was being held at the establishment against her will.
Captain FC van Wyk said when police investigated, they learned that the 28-year-old woman had managed to escape the alleged perpetrators and had fled.
“SAPS was provided with information of her identity, and after searching the surrounding area, she was located in the streets near the hotel,” Van Wyk said.
They returned to the hotel after the woman provided further information.
“An unknown woman opened the room door where the complainant was allegedly kept against her will. The woman was questioned, after which she voluntarily handed over two tik packets,” said Van Wyk.
The suspect allowed police to continue searching the room.
The officers found 1011 tablets, believed to be mandrax, and another substance called G-liquid, which police said is allegedly used as a date rape drug.
“These drugs will be sent for forensic testing,” Van Wyk said.
The woman was arrested.
Further intelligence was received on the whereabouts of an accomplice.
Police then traced his location to another Cape Town hotel, arresting the 39-year-old man.
“Further information linked this suspect to numerous other contact crimes committed and reported in Gauteng,” Van Wyk said.
Both suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
