Africa-Press – South-Africa. Two men charged with the murder of Normadien couple Glen and Vida Rafferty have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Last week, the Madadeni High Court in KwaZulu-Natal convicted and sentenced Doctor Ngwenya, 20, and Sibongiseni Masondo, 33.
They were charged with murder, robbery and burglary that occurred at Normandien on 30 August 2020.
On that day, Normandien police were called to a murder scene, where the men had shot the couple dead, along with their family dog, before fleeing the scene in the couple’s car, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said on Monday.
Four men were arrested as a result of an investigation.
Sizwe Tell Zwane, 29, pleaded guilty in March 2022 and was sentence to 60 years in jail.
Another suspect, Siyabonga Macu, 29, was murdered in October.
His murder was being investigated, Gwala said.
“The remaining co-accused pleaded not guilty. They made several appearances at Madadeni High Court where they were convicted and sentenced to two life imprisonment for two counts of murder and 15 years for each count of robbery and a further six years each for burglary.”
