Africa-Press – South-Africa. Two pupils were killed and several others injured in an accident involving two minibus taxis and a truck on the N4 between Vosman and eMalahleni in Mpumalanga.

The accident happened on Thursday morning.

Community Safety, Security, and Liaison department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said the accident happened after one of the taxis allegedly stopped or slowed down.

“The truck subsequently hit the rear of the taxi, and the taxi then drove into the rear of the other minibus that was in front. All vehicles were travelling in the same direction,” said Mmusi.

Mmusi said the injured were taken to nearby health facilities, and investigations were under way.

Last week, News24 reported that 21 people, including schoolchildren, were killed in a horror accident near Groblersdal in Limpopo. Nineteen people died at the scene, while two more died in hospital.
At the time, Limpopo transport and community safety department spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said two minibus taxis and a truck were involved in the crash.

“The accident is suspected to have happened when a minibus collided head-on with a truck and another minibus taxi after overtaking unsafely. Law enforcement officers at the scene cite reckless driving as a possible cause of the crash,” Chuene said.

One of the taxis was transporting pupils to school, said Chuene.

Community Safety and Transport MEC Florence Radzilani expressed concern about the province’s high number of road deaths.

“These accidents are an indication that something is very wrong when it comes to driver behaviour, as these crashes are caused by reckless driving in most instances,” said Radzilani.
