UFS Adjusts 2025 Calendar After Student Protests

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The University of the Free State (UFS) has amended its 2025 academic calendar to ensure completion of the academic year.

This follows two weeks of disruptions caused by student protests.

The unrest was triggered by a university policy that blocks students with outstanding fees from registering for the 2026 academic year.

End-of-year exams, originally set to start on 3 November, have been postponed to the 10th.

An exception has been made for students in the health sciences faculty, who will stick to the original schedule to allow them to graduate in December and begin internships in January.

In a statement, the university confirmed that the QwaQwa campus will reopen on Monday after students were evicted from residences following the torching of a campus building during the protests.
