Africa-Press – South-Africa. South African actor Louis van Niekerk has died. He was 87.
NvR Management confirmed the actor’s death in a statement on Tuesday.
“It’s with deep sorrow that we heard tonight of Louis van Niekerk’s death,” the statement on Facebook reads.
“Sincere condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues. Our culture and arts are poorer. A big tree fell today.”
Van Niekerk was a TV, stage and film actor as well as a theatre director. He was best known for his role as Uncle Festus in the popular kykNET soapie Getroud Met Rugby, which was cancelled in 2022 after 14 years on the air.
The cause of van Niekerk’s death has not yet been disclosed.
