Africa-Press – South-Africa. The sentencing of a North West man found guilty of murder and two counts of attempted murder has been postponed to May.
Confidence Sekgoro, 38, appeared at the Klerksdorp Regional Court on Monday where his lawyer successfully requested that his case be postponed pending outstanding medical records.
The defence team requested that sentencing be postponed to 11 May as they needed to submit a detailed report to the court for sentencing preparations.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Henry Mamothame, said: “The matter was set for sentencing on 11 April 2022. However, his defence team requested a postponement to allow the probation officer to receive Sekgoro’s medical report and for her to submit a comprehensive report in preparation for sentencing.”
On November 2019, Sekgoro handed himself to the police after he shot dead Mohamed Dangor, 31, and attempted to kill his colleagues Mehboob Soomra, 36, and Yusuf Ally, 61.
Sekgoro later testified that he was acting in self-defence.
However, his submission was dismissed following video footage presented as evidence which showed there had been no threat against him at the time.
