Zulu coronation: Misuzulu already on the throne, ceremony just a formality - Buthelezi

Africa-Press – South-Africa. The kraal-entering ceremony performed as a rite of passage at the coronation of Misuzulu kaZwelithini as the Zulu king got under way at the Khangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

This was despite an application for an urgent court interdict to halt the coronation that was being heard in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg at the same time.

AmaZulu traditional prime minister Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi described the ceremony as a prayer to introduce him to his ancestors and his people.

Buthelezi said the king was already on the throne and that the event was a formality.

The court application has been launched pending the finalisation of an appeal granted by the Supreme Court of Appeal on Friday, in which the daughters of the late King Zwelithini’s first wife, Sibongile Dlamini-Zulu, are challenging the late king’s will.

Her daughters, princesses Ntandoyenkosi Zulu and Ntombizosuthu Zulu-Duma, want the court to declare that their father’s will had been forged.
