Africa-Press – South-Sudan. 12 students graduated with diplomas and bachelor’s degrees in midwifery from Wau Health Science Institute in South Sudan’s Western Bahr al Ghazal State today.
Out of the 12 students who graduated, six were male.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after the graduation ceremony in Wau, several graduates said they chose the career to help reduce the maternal mortality rate in South Sudan.
Thomas Uray Mayen said: “I have chosen this career because I see our women suffering, children are dying of unknown diseases, so I chose it to help reduce the mortality rate.”
He added, “I will work in the whole of South Sudan wherever the government takes me to, I am ready to serve any community.”
Another graduate, Madeline Adut Manyiel, said after her today’s graduation, she is ready to go and serve her community in the village.
“After our graduation, we will be going to work in various places to serve the people, especially pregnant mothers and children,” Adut said.
Meanwhile, the State Minister of Health, Dr Vincent Taban urged the graduates to follow the medical code of ethics while carrying out their duties.
“The issue of medical code ethics is very important, I have been regularly telling the graduates to always cooperate with colleagues during your working hours,” Taban said.
Taban also urged the new midwives to respect patients during their duties.
On Thursday, the Catholic Health Institute in Wau also graduated 41 medical staff.
