Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The organized forces confiscated about 200 weapons from unauthorized persons during last week’s disarmament exercise in Wau town of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

The State Acting Police Commissioner James Simon says the disarmament forces were drawn from SSPDF, Police, National Security Service, Prison Service, Wildlife and Civil Defense.

In a one-day exercise on 26 January, the soldiers seized 137 Kalanchikosv,50 other types of guns and an unspecified number of bullet magazines.

“We did the necessary procedures with the organized forces the SSPDF, police, National Security, Prison service, wildlife and civil defence forces, we set a timeline and we did the exercise,” Gen. James told Eye Radio on Tuesday.

“We collected 137 Kalanchikov, some bullets, 50 different types of guns and white arms. They were collected from individuals who are illegally possessing guns and these guns are now under the responsibility of SSPD,” he said.

“The disarmament exercise was on the 26th and it was done for one day”.

Simon some suspects, without specifying the number are being investigated on how they acquired the guns.

“I cannot tell the number of suspects because there is still an investigation on how these suspects got the guns then when the investigation is done a case will be filed with the police”.
