Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The authorities in Warrap State’s Tonj East County on Monday morning said four people were killed and 16 others injured over the weekend when a large group of armed youth from the Thiik Section attacked the Akok Section of Ngap-Agook Payam, and fighting lasted a whole day.
Police Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Deng Madut told Radio Tamzuj on Monday that the clashes stopped on Sunday, but that there is fear that fighting will resume. He said the injured are receiving treatment in various local health facilities.
“Armed youth from the Thiik Section of the Malual-Chum area attacked the Akok Section of Ngap-Agook Payam,” he explained. “During the fighting, two people were killed and nine injured from among the attackers (Thiik) while the Ngap-Agook armed youth also lost two people and seven people were wounded, making a total of four dead and 16 people with bullet wounds.”
RSM Madut added: “There was relative calm yesterday (Sunday), although there is fear of revenge attacks.”
Meanwhile, Moses Madot, a member of parliament representing Tonj East County’s Constituency Number 16 in the state parliament, confirmed the incident and said they are probing the cause.
“The fight happened when the Tonj East County commissioner was with us here in Kuajok Town, and the phone numbers of local administrators from both Ngap-Agook and Malual-Chum payams are not going through,” he stated. “We are still investigating what triggered the fighting, why armed youth of Malual-Chum attacked the armed youth of Ngap-Agook.”
