Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) have lost military equipment valued at over $58 million during an attack on the Nasir garrison in March 2025, according to a prosecution witness who testified in a special court in Juba on Wednesday.
The equipment list includes 537 AK-47s, ten RPG-7s, two Zu-23mm weapons, eight 60.75mm mortars, and nine 12.7mm heavy machine guns.
Additional weapons comprise three Ahons, two BM-7mm weapons, one Ahon-82mm, and three 14.5mm heavy guns.
Other items consist of two LG-4s, three LG-2s, seven mounted APCs, four mounted Land Cruisers, five trucks, two large generators, and a radio.
Major Peter Malual Deng, an officer of the SSPDF and a member of the joint military investigation committee, told the court during the 25th session that the white army, with support from certain SPLA-IO officers, killed 267 SSPDF soldiers, including Commander Maj. Gen. David Majur Dak, and injured 13 others.
Malual claimed that the white army and certain SPLA-IO officers engaged in sabotage, destruction, and looting of government property, as well as causing damage to the UNMISS helicopter during an evacuation mission.
He claimed that Machar did not protect SSPDF soldiers from being killed by the White Army and failed to control his forces, condemn the attack, or establish a committee to investigate the incident in Nasir and hold those responsible accountable.
Malual presented the SSPDF report on the Nasir incident, the associated damage costs, and several video clips documenting the violence.
One video showed six injured SSPDF soldiers who were allegedly captured by the white army and killed at the Nasir garrison on March 7, 2025.
Another clip depicted members of the white army in a Land Cruiser celebrating after taking control of the Nasir garrison.
Additionally, there was video footage and photographs of SSPDF personnel retrieving the bodies of their fallen comrades following the capture of the Nasir garrison on April 20, 2025, and burying them in a mass grave.
The court adjourned the session until Friday, 28th November 2025.
Dr. Riek Machar, 72, and his allies face charges of murder, treason, and crimes against humanity at a special court led by a panel of three judges.
These charges stem from a March 2025 attack by a militia allegedly linked to Machar, which resulted in the deaths of Majur, along with more than 200 soldiers and a member of the UNMISS helicopter crew.
