Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir received a security update on the Bahr el Ghazal region and Warrap State as the government pondered ways of dealing with inter-communal conflicts.

Kiir was briefed by Vice President of the Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi, with whom he discussed sticky issues about the situation in the Bahr el Ghazal region.

The meeting focused on the challenges facing the region, such as food security and flooding.

“I spoke with the President of the Republic about the impact of the recent floods in Bahr el-Ghazal.”I also explained to the President the issue of the border between Twic and Mayom counties.

The vice president revealed that he held a meeting with the community leaders and chiefs to discuss their role in promoting peaceful coexistence with their neighbouring communities.

In a separate meeting, President Kiir met with Warrap State Governor, Manhiem Bol Malek, on matters pertaining to the general security situation in the state.

Manhiem told the media after the meeting that the head of state was alarmed by the impacts of severe flooding, which rendered several households in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

“The President of the Republic assured me of his support for the state, specifically regarding the issue of floods and the security situation, including the conflict in Warrap, specifically the conflict between the communities of Twic and Ngok as a result of the conflict over land,” he said, as quoted by the Office of the President.

“The President of the Republic also assured me that he would cooperate with me and the new Chief of the Abyei Administration, Dr. Chol Deng, and with the Twic and Ngok communities to solve their problem.”
