Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Vice President of Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi directed the Minister of Health Awel Deng to table the health concerns facing lactating mothers at the cluster meeting.

Speaking during the celebration of Breastfeeding Day on Tuesday, Abdelbagi said the government will start supporting all lactating mothers to prevent child mortality and diseases.

“I have to make sure that all the lactating mothers are given enough time to breastfeed their children since breast milk is important and has vitamins,” he said.

He urged the young mothers to breastfeed their children until they attain two years.

The undersecretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ader Macar, said the milk of the breast provides children with victims and keeps them stronger.

“We need to support breastfeeding at home and at work because it helps the growth of the child’s health,” he said.

In a joint press release by the minister of health and UNICEF on the world commemoration of breastfeeding day, the national minister of health, Yolanda Awel, hailed breastfeeding as the best way to prevent infant morbidity, mortality, and malnutrition and attain optimal growth and development.

“It is vital that public institutions listen to working parents about why they need to practice exclusive breastfeeding at workplaces.

“Simple actions, like giving adequate time off so that a new mother has time to breastfeed, can be enforced at the workplace and give a new generation the best health foundation,” Yolanda said.
