Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on Wednesday handed over three new tractors to Jonglei State to boost food production and strengthen food security in the state.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Juba, Eng. Emmanuel Semaya Kumba, Director for Agricultural Mechanization at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, said the provision of tractors signifies a crucial step in the government’s broader efforts to modernize farming, enhance food security, and foster sustainable agricultural development across Jonglei State.

“These developments are only the beginning. With clarity of vision, committed leadership, and a robust implementation strategy, we are building a modern, resilient, and prosperous agricultural sector for Jonglei State,” Kumba said.

He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to working closely with the Jonglei State government to bolster its agricultural sector.

Kumba urged local communities to utilize the new equipment effectively to boost food production to reduce reliance on foreign assistance.

For his part, Kur Ayuen Kou, Jonglei State’s Secretary General, thanked the Ministry of Agriculture for its commitment to foster agricultural production in the state.

Ayuen revealed that three tractors would be distributed to three payams of Jonglei State.

He also acknowledged the generous donation from Salva Kiir Mayardit, highlighting that the initiative aligns with the president’s vision for a ‘year of peace and agricultural progress.’

He said more additional tractors will be distributed next year as part of an ongoing mechanized agriculture program designed to modernize farming practices and help farmers increase crop yields.
