Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of South Sudan is expected to implement its security fee code on all international flights beginning this month, raising air transportation fees.
The decision was reached after a meeting between the authority and representatives from all international airlines last month and agreed on a proposal to raise the security fee code N3 from $25 to $60.
The charge will apply to all on incoming and outgoing flights and vice versa.
The directives were scheduled to be expedited in early April. This has now raised the cost of airline tickets for flights flying to other countries outside South Sudan.
The authority has ordered airlines to fill out and request an increase in the tax code through the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Ticket Tax Box Service (TIBS).
An airline agent told City Review that the implementation of the tax code has already begun and that they are looking for ways to split the cost with customers.
He also reiterated that the implementation will be gradual because it is still in its early stages and that airlines will meet soon to discuss the matter further.
The authority has also urged airlines to provide maximum cooperation and compliance with the directive in order to facilitate engagement between the authority and airlines and avoid the imposition of sanctions on airlines that choose to disobey the directive.
