ARC engineers issue three-day ultimatum over unpaid salaries

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Engineers at African Resources Corporation Limited (ARC) have issued a three-day ultimatum to the company’s management, demanding payment of accumulated salary arrears or face possible legal action.

Speaking on behalf of the affected staff, the chairperson of the engineers’ committee, Cyer Ring, said salary arrears have gone unpaid for up to 15 months for redundant staff and more than 20 months for retained employees.

He added that the last salary payment was made in March 2024.

In a formal letter addressed to the Managing Director, Adut Mel Kuol, the engineers said the company downsized more than 90 percent of its workforce in June 2025 due to financial challenges, assuring employees that outstanding salaries and benefits would be settled as soon as possible.

According to the engineers, staff accepted the downsizing decision without resistance.

However, the committee alleged that in July 2025, management formed an asset management committee that confiscated company vehicles from engineers and other staff, despite unresolved salary arrears.

The engineers said the move was carried out without prior consultation and instead of efforts to address outstanding payments.

They further claimed that between July and December 2025, the company failed to provide clear communication or a concrete plan regarding the settlement of salary arrears for both retained and redundant staff.

As a result, the engineers said they have given management three days, from December 17 to December 20, 2025, to clarify the situation and resolve the matter. Failure to respond, they warned, will result in legal action.

“We have been patient for almost two years without salaries and benefits,” Cyer Ring said. “Since June, there has been no clear communication on when or how our arrears will be paid.”

Last week, the management of ARC said it was working to settle the arrears amid financials constrains.

“These repeated promises are no longer working. What we want is simple — we want our money, said Ring.

He added that copies of the ultimatum letter were delivered to the Managing Director, the Human Resources office, the company’s legal adviser, and the company president.

The engineers also accused ARC Resources Corporation Limited of poor communication and what they described as repeated empty promises since the financial crisis at the company began.

Management of ARC Resources Corporation Limited has yet to respond to the move.
