Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Jonglei State Boda Boda Association launched a registration drive targeting its members in Bor yesterday.
According to the Secretary-General of the Boda Boda Association, Steven Chol Deng, the registration is meant to determine the number of riders in the state headquarters.
He added that the association is the direct body answerable to the state government and that knowing the number of members would help in addressing occasional challenges.
“After registering with the association, all members will be provided with membership identity cards, and the association can also help you as a member in case of any minor accident,” Chol said.
“If you have a minor accident and your motorcycle is confiscated, the association may intervene and ask the traffic officer to allow the member to take his motorcycle as long as the case is still pending or proceeding,” Cho added.
Each member is required to pay a fee of SSP 2000 for registration. However, some riders claimed that there was no prior communication to prepare the prospective members.
Chol Bol, a member of association, said he learnt about the registration Monday morning when a traffic policeman asked him at the station to go for the exercise.
“I don’t know their manifesto. I just went for the registration because I don’t want to have any problem with the police officer who informed us,” he said.
“In case of any challenges facing us as members of the association, we will present them to their office and see how they will handle them,” Bol said.
Bol said he was yet to see a manifesto of the association.
He said the traffic police are insisting on the registration and anyone who refuses to do so is threatened with at least a SSP 2,000 fine u[on the confiscation of the motorcycle.
