Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Chairperson of the umbrella of the Other Political Parties, Peter Mayen, told parties opposing calls for elections to either support the 2024 election or wait for the next one in 2030.

In an interview with The City Review, Mayen argued that there is no need to criticise the election process while the commission is already preparing for it.

He claimed that citizens are ready to vote in the coming election and pick their leaders.

For him, there are only a few options for those who do not want an election due to some reasons known to them.

“We have only two options for parties who do not want elections: you either join the squad and citizens who are supporting the election and prepare for party registration and campaigns, or you wait and register your party and later decline during the 2024 election and be ready for other elections in the future,” he said.

“We do not want more shared government. If the citizens need you, you will come back, and if they do not need you, they will vote you out,” he said.

He claimed that parties holding major shares in the government fear that they may become minority parties after the election, as most of them may lose positions in various areas.

“The SPLM-IO and SPLM have a majority share of the current government, but they see the election as a threat; many of them may fail to be governors or members of parliament, and they may later be minority parties,” he said.

He appealed to the parties to support the electoral commission in its activities as required and ensure that there is a peaceful election.

“What we need is just to support the National Election Commission. Six months are enough to prepare our country for the election,” he said.
