Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan Basketball will meet the USA Basketball squad for the first time on July 20, 2024, in London, as part of next year’s showcase and preparations for the Paris Olympics.

This comes after the SSBF announced that it has accepted an invitation from USA Basketball to play a friendly match on that day.

“As a young and developing program, South Sudan Basketball recognizes and appreciates the significance of each stage of our progress. We accept this invitation as a welcome opportunity to compete at an elite level,” SSBF President, Luol Deng, said in a press release.

“The USA Basketball Showcase will be a valued addition to our preparation for Paris, and I look forward to the experience of being in London, where my journey as an Olympian began 12 years ago,” he added.

The federation stated that USA Basketball CEO, Jim Tooley, was optimistic that by facing South Sudan and Germany, his side will access optimal training opportunities to prepare to defend the gold medal in Paris.

“USA Basketball is looking forward to the excitement of an Olympic year and the opportunity to take the USA Basketball Showcase to Las Vegas and London.”

According to the federation, the country is presently completing additional activities scheduled for the 2024 Road to Paris training program, including a training camp.
