Africa-Press – South-Sudan. At least 3 people were killed, 2 wounded and 600 cattle raided on Thursday when raiders attacked Wickol Payam in Uror County, Jonglei State, officials said.

John Samuel Manyuon, Jonglei State caretaker Minister of Information told Sudans Post on Friday the attack was carried out by suspected armed youth from neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

“Armed criminals believed to be from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area attacked Wickol Payam of Uror County in the afternoon,” Manyuon said.

Manyuon, who doubles as Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said the attack occurred at 12 pm on Thursday.

“There was confrontation from the youth from the area and they killed three people and wounded other three and ran away with more than 600 heads of cattle,” Manyuon said.

“Currently the state government is helpless unless it comes to the time of deployment of Necessary Unified which is yet to commence but I talked to authorities on the ground who say they were able to defend themselves.”

He sent his condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased.

For his part, Abraham Kelang, Information Minister of Greater Pibor Administrative Area said the authorities of Jonglei didn’t bring the incident to their attention.

“Our counterpart from Jonglei didn’t inform me about that and even the commissioner of Uror County, he has my number, but he didn’t inform me,” said Kelang.

Communities in Jonglei and GPAA have in the past years engaged in tit-for-tat revenge attacks and cattle raiding. The community leaders from both areas have held peace dialogues to resolve the violence but it continues unabated.
