Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Governor of Central Equatoria State of South Sudan, Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, on Monday reconciled the Jor and Koggi communities of Terekeka County following clashes that erupted last week over a disputed piece of land.
At least eight people were killed and 18 others injured in last week’s clashes between rival clans over grazing land in Terekeka Payam.
A reconciliation initiative, initiated by the governor, brought together the Jor and Koggi communities, who managed to speak out about their grievances.
The conference was attended by senior government officials, women, youth, chiefs, academics, and community leaders.
Speaking during a peace ceremony in Terekeka County on Monday, Governor Jadalla urged both communities to embrace the spirit of reconciliation and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that peace and unity are essential for development.
“Our President Salva Kiir said war must stop. He wants you to come together through dialogue, because he does not wish for us to fight. You, as the Mundari people, should reflect on your shared interests. Do not harbor hatred among yourselves,” said Jadalla.
Jadalla reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the citizens live in harmony and peace among themselves.
For his part, Jaden Jada, area MP, denounced the violence and called on the youth to refrain from engaging in conflict.
“We, the politicians of Terekeka, should stand united regardless of the challenges we face,” said Jada.
He urged the youth to use their energy to farm rather than using it for unproductive activities.
Meanwhile, Wani Buyu, the acting chairman of the Mundari community, hailed the state government for their collective efforts in bringing about reconciliation and peace in the area.
“Today, as you have forgiven each other, let this mark a new beginning. This land is for all of you. Today (Sunday), all the women who were displaced should come back,” Buyu said.
Abraham Gai, the Paramount Chief of Terekeka County, stressed the importance of community policing to strengthen law and order at the grassroots level.
“Governor, we the Mundari people have seen your support since the onset of the conflict. You stood with us, and we pray that God blesses you,” said Gai.
