Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Central Equatoria State reviewed the expected regional rally, where President Salva Kiir is expected to be endorsed as the party’s sole candidate in the upcoming elections.

According to the statement received from the governor’s press unit, the decision was made during the meeting of the high-level committee.

“The State’s SPLM Spokesperson, Cde. Latio Paul Abbas Ramba reaffirmed the Secretariat’s readiness to fully participate and mobilise extensively ahead of the political rally slated for next month,” the statement partly read.

The Central Equatoria State SPLM Secretariat, in its usual meetings chaired by the state chairperson and state governor, Emmanuel Adil, and the state high-level committee for the mega political rally, reviewed its activities and vowed to strengthen mobilisation.

Latio Ramba, who is the party spokesperson in the state, promised that the party would continue to carry out mobilisation until the election.

He called for the unity of purpose among the party cadres as the party re-strategises to secure a resounding victory at all levels of government.

Last year, the leaders of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Equatoria put the final touches on preparations for a mega rally to endorse President Salva Kiir as the flag bearer in the 2024 presidential election.

The chairperson of the SPLM Women League in Central Equatoria State, Joy Raphael, said the party was waiting to forward the budget to the national secretariat to have the date of the rally fixed.

“Our chairperson briefed us this week, and preparation is going on. We came down on Tuesday; we said that we need to have the budget that is going to cater for the occasion,” she stated.

“The day is not yet known, but they have agreed, and also the chairperson of the party at the national level, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, has agreed that the occasion will take place in Juba.”

She noted that the state party leadership had already formed a committee to look into the budget issues and was to report within two days.

The endorsement will also move to Jonglei State after its completion in Central Equatoria State, the presidential press unit noted.

According to the roadmap for the extension of the transitional period, the general elections will be held in December 2024, and the transitional period will end in February 2025 with the full installation of a democratic government.
