Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Residents in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State (EES), are no longer worried about finding essential drugs at the various health facilities should they fall ill.
This is because the South Sudan Red Cross, with financial support from Kuwait Christian organisations, made drug donations to improve the quality of healthcare provision at the state civil hospitals in Torit.
State Civil Hospital in Torit has run out of drugs for months without replenishment from the national health ministry. This had forced patients to go and buy drugs from privately-owned clinics, which are more expensive.
Joseph Oyet, the acting head of the South Sudan Red Cross, said they will continue supporting the Ministry of Health in whatever way they can to cushion the population from treatable diseases.
“We are also supporting the blood bank in Torit,” he said.
Emmanuelle Kaku, a patient at the state civil hospital, is happy that the hospital has received drug donations that not just help her, but other patients as well.
She believes with this development,the hospital will serve more people who will bring a steady stream to the facility to seek various services.
Another patient, James Mada, welcomed the arrival of the new drugs and hailed the Red Cross for supporting the state hospital, which is responsible for saving lives.
James, however, added that the drug donated should now be used appropriately to save the population in the state. He says this should now be used for proper treatment.
“All this time we have been suffering because of a lack of drugs. We are happy with the Red Cross organization for supporting us with drugs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health in Eastern Equatoria State, Lodae Pasqualino, called on the well-wishers to continue supporting the state ministry.
