Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan opposition politician and leader of the breakaway SPLM-IO (reformist) faction, Duer Tut has issued an order establishing a military command council that will be similar to the South Sudan army command.
Last year, Duer who served years as SPLM-IO Governor of Sobat State, issued a statement removing First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar as leader of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) and has since identified his faction as “SPLM/SPLA-IO (Reformist).”
In a statement seen by Sudans Post this afternoon, Duer said the order for the establishment of a military command council takes effect immediately and allies have informed the Post that Duer will make first appointments into the council in the coming weeks.
“In exercise of the powers of the Interim Chairman of the SPLM – IO and Interim Supreme Chief of the SPLA-IO (the Reformists), I Duer Tut Duer Makuac, do hereby issue this Order for the establishment of the SPLA-IO (The Reformists) Interim Military Command Council,” he said in the statement.
The council, Duer said, will consist of a Supreme Chief of the SPLA-IO, a position equivalent to the Commander in Chief of South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) that would be likely occupied by him or his deputy, as well as chief of SPLA-IO which he said is equivalent to the chief of defense forces.
The Chief of SPLA-IO will be deputized by Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Operations, Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Organization and Armament, Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Research and Training, Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Recruitment, Information and Orientation, Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Production, and Administration and Resource Management.
The Council will also include Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Logistic and Procurement, Deputy Chief of SPLA-IO for Overall Intelligence, Commander of Military Police, Commander of Special Force, VIP and General Headquarters Security and Protection Units.
It will also include Commander of Northern Front, Commander of Southern Front, Commander of Eastern Front, Commander of Western Front, Commander of Central Front, Commander of Counter Intelligence, and Commander of Combat Intelligence Units.
Others include Commander of Internal Intelligence Gathering, Counter insurgency and Mutiny deterrent Units, Chief Civil Administrative Officer, and Chief Political Officer
The order further added that “The Interim Deputy Chairman of the SPLM-IO (the Reformists) shall chair the Council in the absence of the Chairman.”
