EES Governor Launches Torit University of Science and Technology

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Eastern Equatoria Governor Louis Lobong Lojoro has announced plans to operationalize the Torit University of Science and Technology, following a meeting with the head of state on Monday.

Governor Lobong said the institution aims to provide affordable higher education for students in Eastern Equatoria, especially those whose families cannot afford to send them outside the state for further studies.

“He (Lobong) said the institution is intended to provide affordable higher education for students within Eastern Equatoria, particularly those whose families cannot afford to send them outside the state for further studies,” office of the president reported.

He appealed to development partners and well-wishers for financial support, stressing that education is vital to sustaining peace and progress in the region.

During the meeting, the Governor reported that the state remains stable, crediting this to local communities and leaders who have prioritized dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

The head of state welcomed the university initiative and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education nationwide.

He also praised the people and leadership of Eastern Equatoria for their continued dedication to peace, describing the state as a model for the rest of the country

In May, 2025, Lobong was cited Juba Times, an online media appealing for urgent funding to operationalize the long-awaited Torit University of Science and Technology (TUST), estimating a startup cost of SSP 437 million. Established in 2010 by presidential decree, TUST planned to launch its first batch in the 2025/26 academic year with initial faculties in Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and Business Administration.
