Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and 1st VP Dr. Riek Machar Teny over the death of South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Manawa Peter Gatkuoth.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia this morning, President Sisi sent a message of condolences to Kiir, First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, and South Sudan’s government and people.

” On behalf of people and government of Egypt, I send my sincere condolences to South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, members of the SPLM (IO) and entire people of South Sudan on untimely death of H.E Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation “, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement on Sunday.

Minister Manawa died on Sunday morning at a hospital in the Egyptian capital Cairo at 5:00am according to Information Minister, Michael Makuei Lueth.

Makuei, who is also the government spokesperson, told reporters on Sunday that the minister was rushed to Egypt on Friday for further treatment after he suffered from what he called ” cardiac arrest ” in Juba.

“The cause of death remains unclear. But the late was suffering from heart disease. He was admitted to a hospital for two days here in Juba, but he was evacuated to Egypt on Friday for further treatment,” he said.

Manawa was appointed as the minister in March 2020 on SPLM (IO) in Unity government following the formation Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity that came into effect on February 22, 2020.

Manawa was a senior member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO). He also served as minister of physical infrastructure in Jonglei state before the conflict in December 2013.
