El Daein University relocates bachelor's degree programs to Juba

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Council of Deans at El Daein University in Sudan’s East Darfur State announced on Saturday that postgraduate and distance learning students will continue their lectures in El Daein. However, the council has decided to relocate bachelor’s degree students to the city of Juba in neighboring South Sudan due to the ongoing war.

In an inter with Radio Tamazuj, Dr. Sadiq Abdullah, Deputy Director of El Daein University, explained that an extraordinary meeting of the university’s deans’ council made the decision to allow distance education and postgraduate students to continue their studies in the city of El Daein.

Dr. Sadiq Abdullah clarified, “In response to the challenges faced by bachelor’s degree students due to the ongoing war, the Council of Deans has opted to dispatch a committee to Juba. The purpose is to collaborate with the local university and establish a center where these students can resume their studies. Subsequently, the university will contemplate the possibility of opening another study center in Uganda.”

Sudanese universities have faced numerous shutdowns since December 2018, when the protests that eventually ousted former president Omar al-Bashir began.

The current war between the Sudanese army, led by Sudan’s de facto ruler, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohammed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo, has raged for 10 months, disrupting education and forcing universities to close.
