Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Enakl, an urban mobility startup based in Morocco and France, is on a mission to address one of Africa’s most pressing challenges: providing intelligent, safe, and sustainable collective transport solutions for daily commutes. Launched in September 2023 by seasoned entrepreneurs Samir Bennani and Charles Pommarede in Casablanca, and later joined by Ahmed Omrane as Associate CTO, Enakl is set on transforming the daily commute for millions of workers. The company offers a reliable and accessible shared transit platform aimed at reducing both congestion and carbon emissions.
With the support of a $1.4 million pre-seed funding round led by Catalyst Fund, alongside Renew Capital, Digital Africa, Station F, and 15 business angels, Enakl’s approach leverages technology to provide sustainable urban commuting solutions.
“We invested in Enakl because they are revolutionizing urban transit in Africa with a scalable, green solution,” said Maxime Bayen, Operating Partner at Catalyst Fund. “By tackling emissions and congestion through tech-powered, shared transportation, Enakl is addressing the challenges of urbanization while improving accessibility. In today’s climate-conscious world, their model is setting the standard for sustainable, inclusive mobility in African cities.”
Renew Capital expressed similar sentiments: “We recognize the issue Enakl is addressing in many of the cities we work in across Africa. We strongly believe that the collective transportation solutions developed by Enakl are key to solving these challenges. The team has shown significant insights, strategic thinking, and excellent execution, and we’re thrilled to support them on this journey,” said Adam Abate, CEO of Renew Capital.
Focusing on the crucial home-to-work commute, Enakl partners with corporations and local transport operators to ensure their services remain both affordable and accessible. This model not only makes commuting easier for workers but also helps employers reduce their carbon footprints while boosting employee satisfaction.
Having already entered the pilot phase with great success, Enakl is currently managing more than 15,000 bookings per month in Casablanca, with a 20% growth rate each month. The company plans to expand into other African cities. Enakl is setting a new benchmark for safe, affordable, and eco-friendly transportation options that benefit corporations, communities, and governments alike.
“This funding allows us to deepen our impact in Casablanca, extend our reach, and accelerate the development of our technology, using AI to optimize routes, improve the commuter experience, and drive forward sustainable urban mobility solutions,” shared Samir Bennani and Charles Pommarede, co-founders of Enakl.
