Ex-official urges NBG governor to follow rule of law

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A former South Sudan presidential press secretary has advised the governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Aken Ngor to govern using the rule of law.

Speaking to the Aweil community in Juba on Sunday, Ateny Wek Ateny said managing state affairs through sectorial lines causes division among the citizens.

“Governor Tong, I have two pertinent issues to share with you here. One of these is that pervasive cases disunity among the youth in the state. And it is something that has been happening as youth feud among themselves,” said Ateny.

“The other significant issue concerns a young a girl who was raped and killed by an Arab, and dumped in a pit latrine in Aweil some years ago. The suspect is still a live, although sentenced and relatives of girl are inquiring a lot,” he added.

Ateny also challenged the governor to relinquish power if he has failed to govern.

A source, who attended the gathering in Juba, said an emotionally-charged governor accused the former press secretary of planning to take over is position.

During the meeting, Aken said he would be the first person to celebrate his own removal if effective procedures are followed, but not through false accusations.

He accused some unnamed individuals of allegedly working to bring him down.
