Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Former South Sudan minister of petroleum and former senior member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) Dak Duop Bichiok has urged the people of Greater Gajaak in Maiwut and Longechuk this week that he does not want any single vote for opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar.
Dak Duop served briefly as the minister of petroleum in the unity government in 2016 before the collapse of the agreement on resolution of the conflict in South Sudan which was signed by government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the SPLM in 2016.
In 2020, Dak Duop accused Machar, who is also South Sudan’s First Vice President, of single-handed running the SPLM-IO as a family property and then decided to join the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, since then, he has reportedly been working to block support for Machar in Upper Nile state.
Speaking to residents of Maiwut County earlier this week, Dak Duop said he does not want to see any support for First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny during the upcoming 2023 elections saying President Salva Kiir Mayardit is the only person who will lead South Sudan towards peace and prosperity.
“Riek Machar is a power hungry politician and his quest for power has led to the killing and the suffering of the Nuer people and there is no anyone that we can blame apart from Dr. Riek Machar Teny who has spent all of his political life in looking for power in a way that kill people,” he said.
“NO elections are coming in 2023, and it has been made very clear that elections will take place in 2023 whether Dr. Riek will accept it or not. What I want to say is that let’s vote for President Salva Kiir because he is the only person who will take us to peace and security,” he added.
