Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Former South Sudan main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA-IO) commander General James Khor Chuol Giet who defected in August to join the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) has this afternoon been airlifted to South Sudan’s capital Juba.

Khor decided to switch allegiance in August following the split within the SPLA-IO when the group’s former chief of staff General Simon Gatwech Dual along with General Johnson Olony, the former commander of the group’s sector one command in Upper Nile state, attempted to remove First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny as leader of the main armed opposition group.

General Khor Chuol has previously accused Machar of turning the SPLM-IO into a family entity which he said has only been ran by him and his wife who is now the defense minister of South Sudan, Angelina Teny.

Speaking to Sudans Post this evening, a senior army commander at Bilpam said the former opposition commander was airlifted to Juba along with allied commander and the motive was for him to start the process of integration into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces based on directives of President Salva Kiir Mayardit who is also the SSPDF commander in chief.

“This is to confirm that General James Khor Chuol has been airlifted from Malual Gathoth. payam in Upper Nile state to Juba and this is because of directives of the President of the Republic of South Sudan His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit,” he said.

“Immediately after his arrival, he will start the integration process for his forces into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces,” the army office will refused to be named added.

General Khor Chuol was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Kang Riek Diew, Maj. Gen. Lol Nguth Choam and a group of 19 officers who are a part of their delegation and where received at Juba airport by acting SPLM Secretary General Peter Lam Both.
