Africa-Press – South-Sudan. FIFA has affirmed its support for the South Sudan Women’s Cup 2021/2022 Second Edition to promote women’s sports in the country.

The South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) President, Augustino Maduot Parek, hailed FIFA for its continuous support towards promoting football in the country.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Maduot said the South Sudan Women’s Cup 2021/2022 is set to commence on February 24 to March 6, 2022, at the Buluk Training Centre, adding that it would be the first of its kind as FIFA and SSFA tend to roll out a menstrual hygiene program.

He said they would be providing girls in schools across the country with sanitary pads as a way of preventing them from dropping out of school.

“The menstrual hygiene programme is vital for ensuring that girls do not drop out of schools. This tournament is also a way of encouraging girls to join sports. It is useful to themselves, their families, and the nation at large, “said Maduot.

The second edition of the Women’s Cup comprises eight teams: Pool One comprises Rabita FC from Juba as the host team, Al Hilal FC (Wau), Holly Family FC (Rumbek), and Kuku FC (Torit).

Pool Two comprises Nile City FC (Yambio), Yei Joint Stars FC, Mayardit Heroes Girls FC (Kuajok) and Tiger United FC (Aweil).

Maduot said the first edition of the tournament was supposed to be held in 2019 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they were unable to conduct it.

The tournament kicks off with Rabita FC taking on Kuku FC while on the second day, the defending champions from the first edition of the tournament in 2019, Tiger United FC will take on Yei Joint Stars FC.

The semi-finals of the tournament will take place on March 2, 2022, while the third-place game will be on March 5 and the finals on March 6 at the same venue.

The winner will receive a trophy and a $10,000 prize, while the second-place finisher will receive $5,000, the third-place finisher $2,000, and the fourth-place team $1,000, respectively.
