Africa-Press – South-Sudan. More than seven members of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) sustained various degrees of burns when a huge fire broke out at the Division 4 ammunition depot in Bentiu on Thursday, June 8.

Those nearby reported a loud bang that was felt as far as UNMISS base located about two and a half kilometres away.

“Some people were badly injured,” Linda Tom, UNMISS spokesperson, told The City Review Digital in Bentiu.

Linda added that the cause of the fire was not immediately established, though those who spoke to City Review on condition of unanimity said that it could have been a result of an electric fault.

“There was a big bang that shook the ground,” said one of the officers at the base who spoke to City Review in confidence.

The accident reportedly took place between 7-8 p.m.

Linda said that UNMISS has already sent blood assistance, adding that UNMISS forces team will be dispatched to the base to assess the situation.

The City Review Digital is making attempts to get a comment from the division headquarters here.

Meanwhile, Jain Konye, head of the field office in Unity State, confirmed that seven people were injured, some seriously.

This is a developing story. We will keep on updating it if we get any significant development.
