Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Deputy Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal Zachariah Garang hailed the improved security surveillance in the state capital, Wau, arguing it remains the “safest place in South Sudan.”

Speaking during the launch of the testing and pre-testing commission of the Wau Power Plant, Garang said Wau is inching towards a 24-hour economy thanks to security that encourages movements all the time.

“If there is no security we cannot come and stand here and there is no way there can be development,” he explained.

The deputy governor said that with the launch of the power plant, the security in Wau town will be better than ever before.

The power plant renovated by Trinity Energy will cover Wau town, especially residential areas and government institutions.

“The station is working now and will provide electricity in Wau. Two machines have like 2megawatts and there is another machine that will work and will cover parts of their town and will light important institutions like hospitals and some of the government institutions,” Zachariah said.

Wau Station Manager Ernesto Paul stressed the importance of having power, adding that light would reduce crimes and improve security.

“When there is darkness there are thieves but when there is light the thieves will not be there,” he said.

“This project is going to affect the lives of the people and economic development, we need to secure jobs this is one of the key projects that will secure jobs for a lot of employers, and this can boost the economy of this state,” he stated.
