Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Office of the Governor of Central Equatoria State has refuted reports that Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony narrowly survived a deadly ambush on Thursday.

A convoy of the state boss, who was on his way to Mangala Payam, reportedly came under serious attack from unknown gunmen, forcing him to return to Gondokoro.

The incident reportedly took place along the Bilnyang Boma.

“We (the government) condemn the act of attack by the land grabbers in the Payam, county, and bomas of central Equatoria state,” said Central Equatoria State minister of information, Andruga Mabe.

Mabe claimed the attack could have been a retaliatory one by a section of the cartel accused of grabbing community lands in the state.

On Thursday, the state government apprehended more than 50 land grabbers in Gondokoro Payam of Central Equatoria state.

“The shooting in Bilnyang Boma created panic among the community. How safe are the communities if the land grabbers can attack the government,” posed our source.

However, Derick Derickson, the Press Secretary in the Office of Governor termed the reports as “mere fabrication by some anti-peace elements.”
