Governor Dollar Appeals for Forgiveness in Upper Nile

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Governor of Upper Nile State, Jacob Dollar Ruot, has appealed for forgiveness among leaders and communities to promote lasting peace in a Christmas message.

Addressing a mass celebrating Christmas in Malakal town, Governor Dollar called on communities in the state to uphold peace and strengthen unity during the festive season.

He urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

“Let 2026 be a year of peace, unity, hope, and harmony for the people of Upper Nile State. I sincerely thank His Excellency, the President of South Sudan, for guiding us this far, and we pray for his good health so he can continue to lead with wisdom and God’s guidance,” he said.

He also appealed to leaders from different communities and political affiliations in Upper Nile to forgive one another for lasting peace in the state.

“I also call on the leaders of Upper Nile, especially those in Juba, to forgive one another, start a new chapter, and embrace peace that brings acceptance and progress to our people,” he said.

Governor Dollar reminded residents that peace is key to development, saying it enables the provision of schools, health care, roads, and clean water – services that children and families rely on.

“Peace will bring essential services like education, healthcare, roads, and clean water. Without peace, these services cannot reach our communities. Our children need schools, health centers, roads, and access to clean water, but the government cannot provide them unless we embrace peace,” he added.

Reverend Abraham Akol Kur, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Malakal, also urged the state government to strengthen efforts to foster harmony and stability among the people.

“[Jesus] he was born with us here today, and in our hearts, we all wish for peace in Upper Nile. Malakal was once the biggest city in South Sudan, and we hope it can thrive again. Let us also have electricity, good roads, and all the services we enjoyed in the past. Let us agree on peace so that our nation can move forward together,” he appealed.
