Governor Ngor endorses President Kiir for SPLM candidature

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Greater Northern Bahr el Ghazal has endorsed President Salva Kiir as the SPLM party candidate in the forthcoming 2023 elections. On Thursday, April 28, 2022, the Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Tong Akeen Ngor declared President Kiir as the official Presidential candidate in the upcoming general election and called on all the SPLM party members and the general public to rally behind the President.

At a political rally at Aweil Freedom Square, the SPLM Interim Secretary-General, Peter Lam Both, hailed the state SPLM leadership for its role in the mobilisation and recruitment of 723 members into the SPLM party and urged more recruitment.

Lam said the aim of their tour to all the states and administrative areas was to assess the restructuring of the SPLM structures at all levels, according to the party structures of 2008, from Boma, Payam, county, and state levels to the national level.

He said they also want to invigorate the registration of SPLM members to pave the way for the upcoming general elections in 2023. The SPLM Interim Secretary-General called on the party members to observe discipline in the party and added the party affairs should be resolved internally.

He further acknowledged the efforts by the Governor to provide services to the people of Aweil and maintain the spirit of comradeship within the SPLM leadership.

In his speech during the event, Governor Ngor appreciated President Salva Kiir for the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement on Resolution Conflicts in South Sudan.

He outlined some political achievements that have been accomplished by the SPLM in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, such as mobilisation and recruitment of the new members from other parties, with the number hitting 700 so far.

Mobilisation drive

Speaking to The City Review yesterday, SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs and Mobilisation, Kuol Atem Bol said the party was conducting mobilisation and recruitment of party members across all the 10 states in the country.

“This is in line with the party manifesto and the forthcoming general elections.”

Mid-February, the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) flexed its muscles to strengthen its grip in Eastern Equatoria State ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This came up after a meeting between the state SPLM members and the national secretariat at the state secretariat in Torit on Tuesday. The national team was led by the Chairperson of the Specialised Committee on Health at the National Assembly, Abuk Papiti Ayii to strengthen programs in the state.

Abuk said the efforts of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) would energize citizens and make the country firm. “We brought this country from far away, and we must join our efforts to make it stand firm,” Abuk said.

The SPLM Secretary for Foreign Relations, Bol Makweng, stated that the purpose of their visit was to revive the SPLM agenda, vision, and mission in the state.

“Torit is the legion of our history. History starts and ends in Torit. Therefore, we must feel and make SPLM strong here,” Bol said.

Early January this year, the Vice President and also the Deputy Chairperson of the Party, Dr Wani Igga advised all parliamentarians representing constituencies in Central Equatoria State to deliver services to qualify in the eyes of the people and to make it through the forthcoming elections.

The Vice President also called on his party members to intensify their efforts to unite the people so that the party can retain power in the 2023 elections.

Despite being optimistic about the SPLM’s victory in the upcoming elections, Dr Igga said the party leadership should begin to work for the happiness and prosperity of the people of South Sudan.
