Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has partnered with Plan International to enhance collaboration in sports training and capacity building among young people.
Addressing the media after the signing of the MoU, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Joseph Geng, said the partnership will focus on capacity building and sports training.
“This partnership we are signing signifies our support to youth and young people in the areas of sports, training, and capacity building. We enter into this partnership to provide opportunities for youth in South Sudan,” Geng said.
He added: “This MoU will be implemented jointly by the ministry and Plan International and this should give young people access to opportunities.”
“This should give young people access to opportunities in training, capacity building, and sports as well as engaging them on the ongoing projects that are supported by Plan International as a partner,” he added.
According to Geng, the signing of an MoU with Plan International aims to provide young people with opportunities, and the Ministry would also be in partnership with other organizations.
“The government intends to find opportunities for young people across South Sudan and this is one step we started today. We will be signing more partnerships with many organizations to make sure that young people have a chance,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Country Director of Plan International South Sudan, Mohammed Kamal, said that the Youth of South Sudan possess lots of skills that need more space to explore and that the organisation would continue to support the ministry in the areas of local entities affiliated to the docket ministry.
“The youth just need a space. So, through this MoU, we will continue working with the Ministry of Youth and Sport to support local community entities affiliated to the ministry to create safe and inclusive spaces for young people to speak up and to contribute to building a more peaceful resilient, and better South Sudan,” Kamal said.
According to Kamal, the MoU mainly focuses on sports, which plays a great role in building social cohesion for peaceful co-existence among young people.
