Head of broadcasting authority in West Darfur rolls out peace programming

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The director of the State Radio and Television Authority in Sudan’s West Darfur State, Sheikh al-Din Mohammed Mahdi, has said that his administration has allocated space to broadcast programs on renouncing hate speech and promoting peace, reconciliation, and debunking rumors.

The Authority suspended broadcasting during the war and resumed operation at the end of last December.

Mohammed explained that most of the new programs call for peace and improving the social fabric after the war that led to the displacement of citizens.

“The war has sown hatred among local communities so we decided to broadcast talk shows about peace and religious ones calling for reconciliation and unity,” he enlightened.

He explained that El Geneina Radio has 50 staff present and broadcasting has been pushed up to four hours divided into two hours in the morning and two in the evening.

Mohammed appealed to the employees who fled El Geneina because of the war to return to work.
