Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Owners of hotels and apartments in Juba said that theywere planning to meet to demand millions of dollars in unpaid accommodationbills owed by government since 2018.

The Hotels and Catering Association ofSouth Sudan met yesterday at South Sudan Hotel in Buluk, but could not decideon the next course of action as fewer members turned up for the meetingaccording Gabriel Mabior the secretary of the association.

“We postponed the meeting because wewere very few today. We want all the owners of the hotels (hosting thegovernment officials) to be present so that we come out with agreed position,”Mabior said.

Mel Garang Yout, the spokesperson of theassociation said that they called meet this week or next week tolet theirmembers know the scheduled time for meeting.

Juba Monitor had information thatgovernment owed up to 24 million United States dollars in accumulatedaccommodation bills to the hotels and apartments hosting hundreds of officialsfrom the various peace parties signatory to the 2018 peace deal. Unconfirmed sources said that thegovernment had however cleared some of the dueslater this year.

The officials including top militaryofficials and ministers among others were accommodated in the hotels in Juba bythe now-defunct national Pre-Transitional Committee to oversee implementationactivities in the run up to the formation of the transitional government. In February this year, the hotel ownersthreatened to kick out the officials after the government failed to clear thedues.
