Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Eastern Equatoria State administration has confirmed that the businessman who died in Lowoi Payam, Torit County, last month was killed by the military.

The incident happened on January 30, 2022, when a group of armed men dressed in military uniform stormed Dabur and burnt the whole village.

The attackers abducted three youth but two of them were later released.

Speaking to The City Review on Wednesday, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Peter Lokeng Lotone, confirmed that the businessman was murdered by some soldiers.

“The government of Eastern Equatoria formed a committee [and] we found there were some burning of houses in that area of Tabur. We found 65of the houses were burnt. [We discovered that] one of the land cruisers came across [it]. That is why they started to shoot that businessman,” Lokeng said.

Lokeng said he had instructed the military division commander in the area to investigate the matter further and send the information about the suspects to the state authorities.

The killing in Lowoi happened after a 40-year-old businessman, Oyom Benjamin, was killed in the same area by similar attackers on January 24.

Some women in the area had accused the military in Kos Manga of teaming up with cattle herders against the local people.

These incidents prompted the state government to form a committee to investigate the violence and report to the council of ministers for resolutions.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Communication, Patrick Oting Cyprian, said the government was concerned about the lives of the citizens.

He said they are working hard to ensure the perpetrators of the incident are identified and face the law.

“We as a government, we are very concerned about this because every life or every soul of any person in the state matters to us. We don’t take it lightly and that is why a high committee was sent to look into that matter to find out what the reason for the death of this business person was because it was also affecting the community, “said Oting.
