Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The International Medical Aid Organization Médecins Sans Frontières has distributed food aids to South Sudan’s flood victims in Fangak County of Jonglei State. The food aid consists of blankets, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, plastic sheeting, cooking utensils and other essential supplies.
Paul Gany Hoth, MSF clinical outreach officer said the MSF team has started distributing food and non-food aids to flood victims of Old Fangak in Jonglei State.
“The medical service, though we are providing it, is not enough. They are in the rain in an open space. They need shelters, they need food, and they need everything” Hoth said in a statement extended to Sudans Post this morning.
Hoth warned that the health of the displaced population is likely to deteriorate further without adequate assistance, as the flooding continues. An estimated 426,000 people have been affected and displaced since May 2021, according to the latest report by the UN.
The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently revealed people worst affected by floods are in Jonglei, and Unity, followed by Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal and Upper Nile State. Emilie Allaire, leader of MSF’s Medical Team in Old Fangak said devastating floods are jeopardizing the lives of the people across the country.
“In the region around Haat, we saw catastrophic flooding. The center of the community was flooded several feet deep, forcing all the local population onto the last pieces of land that were not flooded,” Allaire said in a statement extended to Sudans Post this morning.
“Everything in the affected communities was destroyed, Allaire says. People are staying in huts made of sticks and sometimes plastic sheeting. There are no latrines and no clean drinking water,” he said. He said the MSF is providing general medical consultations for children and adults.
