Jonglei Governor Sends Team to Nyirol for Peace Rally

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s Jonglei State Governor, Dr. Riek Gai Kok, on Friday dispatched a high-level advance team to Pading Headquarters in Nyirol County on Friday in preparation for an upcoming visit for major peace rally.

The delegation that arrived in Pading on Friday is led by Williams Kuol Chuol, the State Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, and Nyamar Lony Thichot, the State Minister of Information and Communication.

Their visit aims to evaluate the county’s readiness and engage with community leaders in preparation for the Governor’s arrival.

The advance team is expected to meet with local authorities, youth groups, women’s associations, and traditional leaders to hear their concerns and obtain firsthand information about the security and humanitarian situation in the area.

Speaking upon arrival on Friday Pading, State Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, William Kuol Chuol said the upcoming peace rally will serve as a critical platform to promote dialogue, reconciliation, and unity among the people of Nyirol County.

“We are the advance team sent by the Governor to prepare the ground and inform you that your governor is coming to see you. As we are here today, we will be listening to your voices and challenges so that together we can work toward solutions,” Kuol said.

Kuol stressed that the Governor’s visit demonstrates the State Government’s renewed dedication to restoring stability and strengthening social cohesion across Jonglei.

For his part, State Information Minister Nyamar Lony Thichot commended the warm welcome the delegation received from the community upon their arrival in Nyirol County.

“The community has warmly welcomed us, and we truly appreciate the hospitality they have shown. We also thank Commissioner James Bol Makuei for the reception and love extended to us. This is a clear sign of peace,” Nyamar noted.

Local leaders also expressed optimism that the Governor’s forthcoming visit will help address lingering tensions and enhance cooperation between the State Government and communities affected by years of insecurity.

The visit comes at a time when airstrikes have recently been reported in several parts of northern Jonglei State, including Nyirol, Ayod, and Uror counties, heightening concerns among residents.

Governor Riek Gai Kok is expected to arrive in Pading on Saturday, where he will address the public, meet community, stakeholders, and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to peace, unity, and development in the region.
